Description

The Britannia gold coin was first introduced by the Royal Mint in 1987. Each coin has a face value of £10. Initially, the Britannia was manufactured in 22-carat gold. Since 2012, the Britannia became a fine gold coin produced in 24 carat.

This coin contains one-tenth troy ounce (3.1 grams) of fine gold.

The front of the coin features one of the portraits of Queen Elizabeth II designed by either Raphael Maklouf, Ian Rank-Broadley or Jody Clark.

The reverse of the coin features an image of Lady Britannia. She is holding an olive branch and a shield in one hand, and a trident in the other. The reverse of the coin also portrays the year of minting.

For UK-based private investors, the Britannia is both Capital Gains Tax-free (CGT exempt) and VAT free.
