Description
A classic 2021 British Sovereign gold coin minted by the British Royal Mint. Each coin is struck in 22 carat gold and has a fineness of 0.9167. The weight of each coin is 7.98 grams and the pure gold content is 7.322 grams.
The coin bears the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, aged 88.
The reverse of the coin portrays St George on a horse slaying a dragon, as designed by Benedetto Pistrucci in 1816.
Gold Sovereigns are exempt from Capital Gains Tax due to their status as British legal tender, and UK investment gold is VAT-free.
The British Sovereign was initially introduced into the market in 1817, and until 1932 it was fully circulated as British gold standard currency. Today the coin is primarily used as a collectible British bullion coin.
